Mr Adjei Baffour Acquah believes the current crop of National Executives of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is weak and cannot match what the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) will bring to the Ashanti Region.
The Ashanti Vice-Chairman aspirant, popularly known as Solar, is optimistic that the NDC will have a stronger front, promising that, if elected, he will strengthen the party’s regional structure and challenge the NPP’s dominance in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking on Oyerepa Radio, Acquah said the regional executives the NDC is seeking to elect in the Ashanti Region must have enough influence and capacity to reshape the region’s political dynamics.
“The NDC regional executives we are seeking to elect in Ashanti, on which I will serve as vice-chairman, will be more powerful than the NPP’s National Executives in Accra,” he said.
Acquah argued that the Ashanti Region plays a significant role in determining the outcome of national elections because of the votes it contributes.
He rejected the NPP’s longstanding description of the Ashanti Region as its political stronghold, saying the NDC would work to change that perception.
“They claim the Ashanti Region is their stronghold, but we will show them that it is not their stronghold,” he stated.
According to him, the NDC’s performance in the region during future elections will depend largely on how effectively the newly elected regional executives work.
He said the executives would focus on strengthening the party’s presence and increasing its votes in subsequent national elections.
“How we work when elected also will make us get more votes in future elections,” Acquah added.
