Legal counsel to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Mr Kow Essuman, has formally declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma West Constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Mr Essuman announced on Saturday, November 7, 2026, that he had submitted his Expression of Interest to contest the party's parliamentary primary.
In a statement issued on his birthday, he said the decision followed extensive consultations within the party, discussions with his family, and a period of prayer and reflection.
“I wish to inform members of the New Patriotic Party and the general public that today, November 7, 2026, which marks my birthday, I submitted my Expression of Interest to contest the Party's parliamentary primary in the Ablekuma West Constituency,” he stated.
Mr Essuman indicated that he would continue to comply with all party directives, including the directive issued on October 11, 2026, while awaiting the official timetable and guidelines governing the parliamentary selection process.
“I will continue to abide by the directives of the Party, including the directive issued on October 11, 2026, and await the Party's timetable and guidelines for the parliamentary process,” he added.
The NPP has designated November 1 to 10, 2026, as the period for prospective parliamentary candidates to formally declare their intention to contest the party's primaries.
Mr Essuman's entry adds him to the list of aspirants seeking to lead the NPP's bid to reclaim Ablekuma West, a constituency the party lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general election.
The NDC's Rev. Dr Kweku Addo won the seat after defeating then-incumbent NPP Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
Should Mr Essuman secure the NPP nomination, he is expected to face Rev. Dr Kweku Addo in the 2028 parliamentary election.
