The Volta Regional Development Projects Monitoring Team, led by the Regional Political Coordinator and Regional Organizer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Ben Abibu Siki, has inspected 21 ongoing and completed development projects across the Akatsi North, Ketu South and Anloga districts.
The exercise covered infrastructure projects in education, healthcare, water, sanitation, roads and local economic development, with the team assessing their progress, quality of construction and readiness for use.
The projects are being financed mainly through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), with additional support from the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
In the Akatsi North District, the team inspected an ongoing workshop facility at the Ave Technical Institute in Ave Afiadenyigba. The GETFund-supported project, being executed by Exitech, commenced in March 2026 and is expected to be completed within 12 months. It is intended to provide practical training facilities for technical and vocational skills development.
In Ketu South, the team visited the construction site of a two-unit early childhood classroom block with ancillary facilities at Atsukope Basic School. The DACF-funded project commenced in July 2026 and is scheduled for completion in January 2027. It had reached approximately 45% completion at the time of inspection.
At St. Paul Senior High School, the team assessed 3 GETFund-funded projects, including a new two-storey, 12-unit boys' dormitory, which commenced in April 2026; an earlier two-storey dormitory project that began in 2014, was abandoned in 2016 and has now resumed, with approximately 90% of the work completed; and renovation works on several school facilities being undertaken by Merchant Construction.
The renovation works began in March 2026 and were expected to be completed in November 2026.
The team also inspected a CHPS compound and a two-bedroom semi-detached staff bungalow under construction at Dodorkope. The DACF-funded project commenced in June 2026 with a six-month implementation period and had reached approximately 75% completion.
The facility is equipped with a solar power system, a mechanised borehole and a 500-litre Polytank to support clinical operations and vaccine cold-chain management.
Another major project inspected was the infrastructure package at Klikor Senior High School, comprising a two-storey, 12-unit classroom block, a two-storey administration block, a multipurpose dining hall with a kitchen and a three-bedroom bungalow for the headmaster.
The GETFund-funded project, being executed by Tomorrow Construction, commenced in July 2026 and has an implementation period of 16 months.
The monitoring team further visited the Glidzi-Klikor 24-Hour Economy Market, a major commercial development being funded by the Government of Ghana. The project commenced in August 2026 on approximately 5 acres of land and is expected to be completed within 30 months.
The proposed facility will feature market sheds, lockable stores, retail units, a meat shop, a police station, a fire station, a health centre, a nursery for traders' children, administrative offices and a gym.
Other projects inspected in Ketu South included a three-unit classroom block at Glidzi, described as the community's first local school infrastructure; the renovated Glidzi CHPS compound, together with a new two-bedroom staff bungalow, which was completed and commissioned in May 2026; and a completed six-unit classroom block at Alaglakope.
The Alaglakope facility also includes offices, storage space, a four-seater water closet facility and a mechanised borehole.
In the Anloga District, where 10 projects were inspected, the team began its exercise at Dzita with visits to a newly constructed CHPS compound with integrated staff accommodation and a completed 10-seater WC toilet facility fitted with a 300-litre water tank. Both facilities were awaiting commissioning.
The team also inspected the completed Dogbe Kope CHPS compound, which has a two-bedroom staff bungalow, solar power and a mechanised borehole.
At Agorve, members assessed an ongoing CHPS compound with staff accommodation, which had reached approximately 80% completion. They also visited a newly constructed three-unit classroom block at Akplorwotorkor R.C. Basic School, completed in 2026 and awaiting handover.
At Anlo Senior High School (ANSECO), the team inspected a three-storey, 12-unit semi-detached staff bungalow being constructed by All Nations Logistics with GETFund support. The project had reached approximately 60% completion.
A two-storey science block being executed by MacWest Ltd. was also inspected. Construction began in June 2026.
The final education project visited in the district was a three-unit multipurpose kindergarten block at Afedome Kindergarten in Tegbi Afedome, which had reached approximately 99% completion.
The team also visited the proposed site for the Anloga 24-Hour Economy Market. Although the site had been secured and the contract awarded, the contractor had not yet moved to site.
In addition, the monitoring exercise covered major road projects under the Big Push Initiative being executed by Construction Ambassadors. These include the 12.5km Kome Junction-Alakple road, the 10.5km Atito-Fiaxor road and the 7km Genui Junction-Genui and Kome road.
At the end of the exercise, Hon. Siki and the monitoring team expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded across the 3 districts, particularly in the health, education and local economic sectors.
They, however, emphasised the need for continuous supervision, timely project completion and stronger coordination among contractors, funding agencies and the respective assemblies to ensure that the investments deliver lasting benefits to the beneficiary communities.
