The Management and staff of the Savannah College of Education in Daboya have apologised to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) following an illegal sit-down strike that began on October 27, 2026, and was suspended on November 1.
In a letter dated November 5, 2026, the College admitted that it bore part of the responsibility for the institutional lapses that contributed to the escalation of the industrial action.
Although the strike was initiated by the leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and the Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG), Management expressed regret over the disruption caused to GTEC, the Ministry of Education, students, parents and other stakeholders.
“Management recognises that we share responsibility for the breakdown in institutional processes that allowed the situation to escalate,” the letter stated.
The apology, signed by Acting Registrar Muftau-Kola Fasasi on behalf of the Principal, also acknowledged GTEC's intervention and assistance during the industrial action, particularly its efforts to facilitate dialogue and resolve outstanding concerns.
Management pledged to improve institutional discipline and ensure that staff welfare issues are addressed through the appropriate statutory and administrative channels.
It further assured GTEC of its commitment to working with the Commission and other relevant authorities to complete the migration process and resolve related concerns transparently and without unnecessary delays.
The College also promised to strengthen its internal communication and consultation systems to prevent a recurrence of similar industrial disputes.
“Once again, accept our heartfelt apology for the disruption caused,” the letter said, expressing Management's desire to sustain its collaboration with GTEC in promoting staff and student welfare and advancing tertiary education in Ghana.
