Queen Máxima of the Netherlands has paid a visit to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to participate in the sacred Awukudae festival hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The visiting monarch was received at the Prempeh I International Airport by Nana Kwame Baffoe, the Paramount Chief of Nkoranza, who is traditionally regarded as the eldest son of the Asantehene.
Queen Máxima attracted attention shortly after arriving in Kumasi last Wednesday when she joined in dancing the Adowa, a traditional dance of the Asantes, on the airport tarmac.
Her visit also included a private meeting with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace, the traditional seat of the Asante Kingdom, following the Awukudae festival.
