Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, Esq., has questioned the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) moral authority to lecture the current government on cocaine-related issues, instead calling on the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to provide more information.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the MP said the NPP, during its past regimes, has constantly recorded more cocaine busts than any other government.
“The NPP should not be the ones lecturing us on moral lessons on the cocaine issues because I do not know what they will teach us,” he said.
He admits that the information currently available to the public was insufficient, particularly regarding reports of possible collaboration and Ghana’s involvement.
Baidoo said he supported calls for NACOC to explain the circumstances surrounding the issue and provide clarity on whether Ghana was involved in any reported collaboration.
“I support the call that NACOC should tell us more. The information out there, for a fact, is scanty. If there was that collaboration, we should know. We should know if Ghana was a part of it,” he stated.
He urged the public, however, to give NACOC the benefit of the doubt, suggesting they may currently be cautious about what to say on the matter.
“Let us give them the benefit of the doubt now that they are careful in what they say, but eventually, we should know more,” he added.
