The Ras Muta Foundation has renewed its support for journalistic excellence in the Volta Region by sponsoring the Most Promising Journalist of the Year award at the 4th Volta Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards held in Ho on Saturday.
The award, presented as the GJA/Ras Muta Most Promising Journalist of the Year, went to Desmond Selase Aggor, the Volta Regional Reporter for Citi FM and Channel One TV.
The category is designed to recognise and encourage emerging journalists to uphold professionalism, maintain ethical standards and contribute meaningfully to community development.
Mr Aggor also picked up 2 other awards on the night, winning Best in Education and Best in Sports, making him one of the evening's top award recipients.
The Ras Muta Foundation was established in memory of the late Edem Divine Nyasorgbor, popularly known as Ras Muta, a veteran broadcaster, disc jockey and television host from the Volta Region.
The organisation is headed by its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Seth Derlington Nyasorgbor, popularly known as SizzlaOne, alongside family members, including Madam Yvonne Nyasorgbor. Its mission is to invest in people, education and community values in keeping with Ras Muta’s humanitarian legacy.
Beyond its contribution to media development, the Foundation has also undertaken educational and community-focused initiatives. In September 2026, to mark the 4th anniversary of Ras Muta’s passing, it partnered the Denu Nugoryiyi Foundation to construct and hand over a modern 4-seater water closet (WC) facility to Denu Chicago Basic School in the Ketu South Municipality.
The intervention was aimed at improving sanitation and safety at the school. The Foundations also distributed educational materials, including exercise books, to pupils.
The Ras Muta Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting programmes that advance education, community development and professional excellence.
Meanwhile, the awards ceremony also honoured several notable personalities, including former Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Dr Archibald Letsa, in recognition of his contributions to the region and the media fraternity, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a related development, the Volta Regional branch of the GJA presented Mr Francis Abbah with a Citation of Appreciation for his support towards the implementation of the GJA Phase II Project in the region.
The Association said Mr Abbah had demonstrated commitment, generosity and readiness to support initiatives aimed at advancing journalism, describing his contribution as an important show of dedication to media development and collaboration in the Volta Region.
