The Chief of Kotintaabig in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, Naab Bileehsong Lanwont Namoog, has called on voters in the region to deny some National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament re-election to compel the party to pay greater attention to the area's development needs.

He argued that the Upper East Region would continue to be overlooked in national development if the NDC remained convinced that it could secure all the region’s parliamentary seats regardless of the performance of its MPs.

According to him, at least 5 of the region’s 15 MPs must lose their seats to opposition candidates to send a strong message to the governing party that the region's political support cannot be taken for granted.

“Some of the NDC MPs must be sacrificed for the NDC government to know that we are not absolute NDC members because NDC feels that whether they develop us or not we’ll vote for them,” he said in an interview with Bolga FM.

In the last general elections, the NDC won all 15 parliamentary seats in the Upper East Region, reclaiming the only seat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had captured in the 2020 elections.

Naab Namoog described the outcome as a decision by the region to put all its political support behind one party, warning that such voting patterns could weaken its influence in demanding development.

He further argued that the region would struggle to hold the NPP accountable for its performance in government if voters consistently denied the party parliamentary representation.

The chief urged residents to adopt the voting approach of other northern regions, where support is shared between the NDC and NPP, saying such political competition could encourage successive governments to respond more effectively to their development concerns.
