Yes. The Government of Ghana has spoken on the killing of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, whose name some reports spell "Jarvis" or "Jarvits," and has acted on it. Javits was shot by unidentified assailants at about 9:20 am on Thursday, 29 October 2026, while on his way to school in the Bronx. He had joined his father, Thomas Frimpong, in the United States about a year earlier.
The first response came quickly. In a statement on Friday, 30 October, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa conveyed the government's deepest condolences, said he had been in direct contact with the father, and said officials from Ghana's Permanent Mission in New York visited Mr Frimpong at home that morning.
The government condemned the killing and urged the Bronx authorities to investigate thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice. It said the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Permanent Mission would work with US authorities to pursue justice. The Ministry also pledged legal and consular assistance to the family.
The Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, added to this on Saturday, 31 October. He called the killing a "senseless killing" and said the government would follow the legal proceedings to ensure the family has the right legal representation to seek redress.
The government has also taken practical steps. On Saturday, 31 October, Mr Ablakwa announced that the government would fly Javits's mother to New York, after an intervention by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and US President Donald Trump to secure her a visa.
The Minister said the Mahama administration will cover the full cost of her travel and stands ready to contribute towards a dignified funeral.
The investigation is still open. Mr Frimpong has said he believes the attack could be linked to bullying his son allegedly suffered at school, but police have not publicly given a motive. No arrests had been announced at the time of that report. The killing has also drawn reaction beyond government, including from rapper Sarkodie.
The government's response has been prompt and visible. The test now is whether it follows the case through the US legal process, as it has promised, so the family sees an outcome and not only statements.

Notes: The reports spell the name "Javits," so I used that spelling. Check it against the family's own statements before filing. I did not find the exact times and wording of the Ministry statement in the original release, so check against the Ministry's own post if you quote it directly. The motive is unconfirmed, so I attributed the bullying claim to the father.
