The campus of Twene Amanfo Senior High Technical School (TASHTS) in Sunyani came alive on October 28 and 29, 2026, as the school organised its annual freshers' games to officially welcome first-year students.
The two-day sporting festival, which has become a major tradition on the school's calendar, brought together students from various departments, including General Arts, Science, Home Economics, Business, Visual Arts and Technical, to participate in a range of sporting activities.
The competitions included football, athletics, volleyball, table tennis and other indoor games.
Although competition on the field was fierce, organisers said the event was about more than winning trophies.
According to the Physical Education Department, the games were also designed to identify and nurture students' talents, particularly in areas such as sports commentary, refereeing and coaching, which often go unnoticed in the classroom.
"Some of these freshers have incredible abilities that we never knew about. In just two days, we have discovered potential stars for our school teams," one of the organisers noted.
Beyond talent identification, the games provided students with an opportunity to engage in physical activity, socialise and build relationships. For many freshers still adjusting to their new school environment, the event offered an opportunity to interact, make new friends and develop teamwork.
The atmosphere remained lively throughout the two days, as continuing students thronged the school field to cheer on their juniors, turning the event into a mini carnival.
At the end of the games on Thursday, participants left the field exhausted but fulfilled, with many already looking forward to representing their respective houses and the school in upcoming inter-house and inter-school competitions.
