Eight people have died following a collision between 2 passenger buses at Azuletti, near Samenye, along the Elubo–Takoradi N1 Highway in the Western Region.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Elubo rescued 21 passengers after the Ivorian bus crashed into a stationary Burkinabè passenger bus on Thursday, October 29, 2026.
The accident occurred at about 7:26 p.m. when the Ivorian-registered bus, with registration number AB-415-AN, which was travelling towards Benin, rammed into the rear of the parked bus bearing registration number KJA-5604J.
The parked vehicle had reportedly obstructed one lane of the highway, resulting in the collision.
Seven victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while an eighth person later succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The GNFS said preliminary investigations indicated that excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
Passengers who sustained injuries were transported to the hospital for medical attention, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police.
