The Volta Regional Secretariat of the United Cadres Front (UCF) has rejected a decision by the organisation’s National Interim Management Committee (IMC) to withdraw recognition of its Regional Chairman and Vice Chairman, describing the move as illegal and unconstitutional.
The dispute follows a letter dated February 9, 2026, signed by UCF General Secretary Elanam Nyaku, announcing the immediate revocation of recognition of Comrades Samuel D. Adablah and Joseph Cudjoe Agbeyibor as Regional Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively.
According to the national leadership, the decision was taken after the regional executives allegedly failed to organise a meeting with the National Executives to resolve disagreements that arose between September 4 and 20, 2025, following the inauguration of the North Dayi Young Cadres.
The letter also accused the regional leadership of describing the National Executives as "a bunch of criminals" and directing that national executives be removed from the Volta Regional Cadres platform.
The IMC subsequently instructed the two officers to hand over all UCF property in their possession to Comrade Jessie Ekumebu, who was appointed acting Regional Chairman. It also named 15 other members to serve in an interim capacity.
However, in a rebuttal dated February 24, 2026, and addressed to the Secretary of the UCF IMC in Accra, the entire Volta Regional Executive body challenged the decision, insisting that its leadership was duly constituted in accordance with the organisation’s constitution.
The regional secretariat said the Chairman, Vice Chairman and other elected officers were chosen in 2023 by an electoral college comprising delegates from across the region, in line with procedures established by the UCF Constitution.
It added that the election was supervised by the national IMC and the Volta Regional NDC Executive body, including its Chairman and the current Regional Minister.
The regional executives maintained that Volta remained the only region whose leadership had been duly constituted through a ballot involving delegates, describing the process as a benchmark for the organisation.
They also questioned the legitimacy of the national IMC, accusing it of operating in an interim capacity for the past 15 years without organising fresh elections to elect substantive officers.
The regional body further accused the national leadership of dismantling communication platforms and failing to maintain effective engagement with members.
On the allegation that Chairman Adablah had described the national executives as criminals, the Volta Secretariat denied the claim, explaining that his concerns centred on the need for due diligence before entrusting the organisation’s affairs to individuals with alleged criminal backgrounds.
It cited the Caroline Tsikata fraud case in support of its position.
Consequently, the Volta Regional UCF said it treated the revocation letter with "uttermost contempt" and maintained that all other duly elected regional officers would continue to serve in an interim capacity.
The executives warned that they would not participate in what they described as an illegality, regardless of the individuals involved.
They have therefore demanded an immediate retraction of the national committee’s decision, warning that the response from the national leadership would determine their next course of action.
