Suspended Awutu Senya East Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Ofosu Agyare, has appealed to his supporters to stop campaigning for him to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries in the constituency.
His appeal follows growing calls for him to seek the party’s parliamentary candidacy after several candidates considered to be aligned with him secured positions in the recent constituency executive elections.
In a statement addressed to his followers, Mr Agyare expressed appreciation to those who had encouraged him to contest the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat but urged them to suspend the campaign to allow the party to focus on unity and rebuilding.
“I sincerely appreciate everyone who has expressed confidence in me and called on me to contest for the position of Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency (ASEC). Your encouragement and support mean a great deal to me. However, I respectfully appeal to all those making such calls to discontinue the campaign and allow the newly elected Constituency Executives, working together with our sitting MP, Hon. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, Esq., to begin the important task of uniting the party and rebuilding our collective strength,” he wrote.
Mr Agyare emphasised that the broader interests of the NDC should take precedence over individual political ambitions, urging members to rally behind the newly elected constituency executives as they begin their work.
The development comes amid strained relations between Mr Agyare and the sitting Member of Parliament, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor.
Tensions reportedly escalated after Mr Agyare was suspended in June 2026, ahead of the constituency executive elections, a decision that prevented him from seeking a third term as constituency chairman.
