Ghana recorded 13,951 new HIV infections in 2025, with the Greater Accra Region accounting for the highest number of cases, according to the Ghana AIDS Commission.
The region registered 3,141 new infections during the year, while women accounted for 8,900 cases nationwide, representing 63.8% of the total.
The figures come amid concerns over increasing risky sexual behaviour and declining condom use, which the commission has identified as factors contributing to the country’s HIV challenge.
The Ghana AIDS Commission has also warned that the country is not on track to achieve the global 95-95-95 HIV targets under its 2026–2030 National Strategic Plan.
The targets are intended to ensure that 95% of people living with HIV know their status, 95% of those diagnosed receive antiretroviral treatment, and 95% of those receiving treatment achieve viral suppression.
