MTN Ghana has strengthened its commitment to educational development by awarding scholarships to 500 students and teachers across the country under the MTN Bright Scholarship initiative, providing a major boost to beneficiaries seeking to advance their education and professional careers.
The beneficiaries, made up of 300 students and 200 teachers, will receive financial assistance to pursue their studies at public universities and other tertiary institutions in Ghana.
The scholarship package covers tuition fees, accommodation and stipends for books and other essential academic materials throughout the duration of their studies.
The initiative, implemented by the MTN Ghana Foundation, seeks to remove financial barriers that prevent brilliant but underprivileged individuals from accessing quality tertiary education.
The awards ceremony for the second cohort was held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.
Addressing participants at the event, Mr Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager at MTN Ghana, said the scholarship programme demonstrated the company's determination to invest in education and help shape
Ghana's future.
He stressed that education remained a critical foundation for national development and that financial difficulties should not prevent deserving individuals from achieving their academic ambitions.
"At MTN, we believe education is the foundation for national development, and financial challenges should not be a hindrance to one's academic accessibility," he stated.
Mr Kuzoe explained that the initiative was not merely about providing financial assistance but also about investing in the potential, aspirations and future contributions of the beneficiaries.
He noted that supporting students and teachers to acquire higher education would equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to their communities and the country's development.
According to him, MTN Ghana remained committed to promoting education as a pathway to opportunity, empowerment and sustainable national progress.
Transparent Selection Process
Mr Kuzoe disclosed that the beneficiaries were selected through a rigorous assessment process that considered their academic performance, interview results and demonstrated financial needs.
The process, he said, was designed to ensure that the scholarship reached individuals who deserved the support and faced genuine financial challenges in pursuing their education.
By covering major educational expenses, including tuition and accommodation, the programme is expected to ease the burden on beneficiaries and their families.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude
Some of the scholarship recipients expressed appreciation to the MTN Ghana Foundation, describing the initiative as a significant opportunity to overcome financial difficulties and concentrate on their studies.
They indicated that the support would enable them to pursue their academic goals with greater confidence while reducing the pressure associated with meeting the cost of tertiary education.
Parents and guardians also praised the foundation for the intervention, saying it would ease the financial responsibilities involved in educating their children and wards.
They described the scholarship as a welcome relief for families working hard to support their children's educational aspirations.
MTN Reaffirms Commitment to Education
The MTN Bright Scholarship initiative forms part of the MTN Ghana Foundation's broader efforts to expand access to education and promote human capital development.
Through the programme, the foundation seeks to create opportunities for talented but financially disadvantaged individuals to acquire tertiary education and develop the expertise required to contribute to Ghana's socio-economic transformation.
The award of scholarships to 500 students and teachers highlights the role of private-sector investment in complementing efforts to improve educational access and develop the country's human resources.
As the beneficiaries embark on the next stage of their academic and professional journeys, the initiative offers renewed hope to individuals who might otherwise struggle to meet the financial demands of tertiary education.
