Germany: Democracy is fading away

Germany: Democracy is fading away

No state, no political system stays the same; everything is constantly on the move while some are running. The support for the AfD Alternative für Deutschland, Germany's far-right party, increases constantly, finding supporters among foreign and migrant communities. Young voters see the dark sides of democracy as more relevant than its advantages. Lack of historical and political knowledge makes them think only along historical lines, unable to create from bits and pieces of the toolbox of politics a new, not yet seen governance system which could serve their free will better.

Currently, the name Dr Kathrin Sommer shakes the belief of Hamburg voters in the political system of the city-state. Five months into her new job for fördern & wohnen, mainly providing accommodations for migrants, she was dismissed in 2025 by the government of Hamburg costing taxpayers € 453.000 including € 200.000 severance payment and € 20.000 bonus payment. No explanation was given as to why she was asked to leave.

In the 2004 referendum 79,8% of Hamburg voters voted against selling state hospitals. Ole von Beust, Mayor of Hamburg (CDU), decided to ignore the voices of the people and sold them anyway to the private investor Asklepios Kliniken GmbH. As consultants, along with former Minister of Foreign Affairs Joschka Fischer, they used their political connections to lobby Olaf Scholz and Peter Tschenscher, Mayors of Hamburg during crucial times, to accept the Elbe Tower project of a very shady, now insolvent Austrian investor as a financial burden to the city. Their invoices for consultancy fees mounting in millions of Euros were fully paid.

Each year the Association of German Taxpayers issue their „Black Book“ listing some cases of mismanagement of taxpayers money which estimate to annually around € 1,4 Billion loss or more. Useless projects stand idle in the landscapes of Germany with no personal, organisational and structural consequences. Germany spends annually € 10,4 Billion in foreign aid, of which the governments know fills pockets of corrupt foreign heads of state, keeps the personnel of the respective ministry relevant and in place, while, on top, serves as a strategy to keep, especially Africa under our feet as pressure is eased for African leaders to do the right things for their people.

From August 2025 until October 2026, the current German government has spent more than € 1 Mio. on make-up artists, hairstylists and photographers (approx. Ghc 12 Mio.).

Based on the German Grundgesetz, the constitution of Germany, and the constitutional reality, it is clear to most German voters that Germans do not live in a people-but-party democracy. Political parties are driven by individuals over the power of manifestos.

Politicians are seen as individuals in a self-service restaurant with a grand buffet, no longer as visionary servants to the country of Germany. Most current African leaders are no moral and credible alternative but must work hard to demonstrate that their values can override the wrongs in Germany and the rest of the world of the white man.
