The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), Hon. Ismail Zagoon-Saeed, has joined senior citizens of Elmina to intensify efforts towards improving sanitation and keeping the historic town clean.
The commitment was demonstrated on Tuesday when the MCE joined the group on a walk to inspect areas of the town following a communal labour exercise organised to improve environmental cleanliness.
The walk aimed to assess the outcome of the exercise, identify major causes of poor sanitation and explore measures to address improper waste disposal within the town.
Speaking on behalf of the senior citizens, Mr. Godwin Kenneth Anani said the group was committed to ensuring that Elmina remained clean and provided residents with a healthy environment.
He emphasised that sanitation was a priority for the group and called on residents, businesses and other stakeholders to join hands with them to maintain cleanliness across the town.
Mr. Anani stressed that keeping Elmina clean required collective responsibility and urged residents to take proper care of their surroundings.
Hon. Zagoon-Saeed, on his part, assured residents that the Assembly was ready to provide the necessary support to sustain sanitation initiatives and improve environmental conditions in the municipality.
He also warned that individuals who engage in activities that undermine sanitation efforts would face the appropriate sanctions, stressing that offenders would not be spared.
The joint exercise highlights the importance of collaboration between local authorities, senior citizens and residents in addressing sanitation challenges.
The MCE and the senior citizens called for sustained public participation to ensure that Elmina remains clean, healthy and environmentally safe for residents and visitors.
