A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) national communications team, Hamza Suhuyini, has urged the handlers of Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to do more to publicise her activities, particularly those relating to women’s rights and education.
He said the Vice President’s silence on the alleged sexual abuse scandal at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS) did not necessarily mean she was not taking action.
His comments follow criticism by the National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, who questioned the Vice President’s silence on the allegations involving female students at the school.
However, speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, October 21, Suhuyini said the Vice President’s work needed greater public visibility in Ghana’s political environment.
“The fact that she has not spoken, like you have indicated or insinuated in your question, does not necessarily mean that she's not taking action,” he said.
Suhuyini acknowledged that the Vice President’s handlers needed to communicate her activities more effectively to ensure the public was aware of her work.
He argued that public communication is important not only for informing citizens but also for helping the Vice President’s work receive the recognition it deserved.
He added that Professor Opoku-Agyemang is a mother who is sensitive to issues affecting women and had expertise in education.
“Beyond the responsibilities of being a vice president and working, we are also in a very difficult political landscape, and many of her activities must be given the sunlight it deserves,” he said.
