The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has cautioned the public against fraudulent SMS messages containing payment links designed to deceive people into paying fake fines.

The Authority said the scammers send text messages to unsuspecting recipients, directing them to fake online platforms where they are asked to pay supposed DVLA fines.

It said the messages sometimes promise discounts or impose urgent payment deadlines to pressure recipients into making payments.

“The DVLA does not offer discounts on fines. Any SMS, website, platform, or person claiming to offer discounted DVLA fines is fraudulent,” the Authority said in a statement issued on Wednesday, October 21.

The DVLA has urged the public to disregard such messages and avoid clicking on suspicious links, sharing personal information or making payments through unofficial platforms.

It said the only acceptable online payment gateway for its transactions is the Government of Ghana’s official payment platform, Ghana.gov.gh.

The Authority also directed the public to its official website, www.dvla.gov.gh, to verify information and warned against using other websites, shortened links or unofficial payment platforms claiming to represent it.

“Any person who receives such suspicious SMS messages is encouraged to report them to the nearest DVLA office or the appropriate law enforcement agency for further action,” the statement added.
