The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has estimated the cost of damage from a fire involving a 33-seater VIP bus at Akyem Akooko along the Accra–Kumasi Highway at GH¢300,000.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 19, involving a bus with registration number GE 8855-15.
According to the GNFS, the driver noticed thick smoke inside the bus while resting after an earlier mechanical fault had been repaired.
Preliminary observations suggest a possible electrical fault, but investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the fire.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control at 12:40 a.m. and completely extinguished it at 12:52 a.m.
No casualties were recorded in the incident, the GNFS said in a statement issued by its Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer on Wednesday, October 21.
