The Member of Parliament for Binduri, Issifu Mahamudu, has supported about 100 students entering Senior High School (SHS) with GH¢1,000 each, amounting to a total of GH¢100,000 in financial assistance.
The initiative is designed to ease the financial burden associated with beginning secondary education, particularly for academically promising students and those with special talents.
Speaking at the presentation, the MP’s Personal Assistant, Elvis Anaba, said the legislator had encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and strive for academic excellence. He noted that the MP would monitor the students’ academic performance and continue to support those who excel.
Mr. Anaba added that the intervention forms part of broader efforts to improve educational outcomes in the Binduri District, which continues to face several challenges in the education sector.
The Binduri District Director of Education, Awini Timothy, expressed appreciation to the MP for the support, describing it as timely assistance for students transitioning into secondary education. He also highlighted a gender disparity in participation in the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), noting that more girls than boys sat for the examination.
According to him, 1,064 candidates registered for the BECE in the district, comprising 604 girls and 460 boys. He said the figures underscore the need to sustain efforts to improve access to education and support students across the district.
One of the beneficiaries, Akparibo Faiza, expressed gratitude to the MP, saying the financial support would help ease the cost of starting SHS.
The intervention is expected to provide meaningful relief to the beneficiaries as they prepare to begin their Senior High School education.
