A fire outbreak at the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) Mallam Substation has disrupted electricity supply to parts of Accra.
The incident occurred at 2:36 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, after a fault triggered a fire on one of the transformers at the substation.
GRIDCo said the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident and successfully extinguished the fire, while efforts were underway to restore power to all affected areas.
“The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident and successfully contained and extinguished the fire,” the company said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The company disclosed that electricity supply had been restored to some of the affected areas, with engineers working to reconnect the remaining areas as quickly as possible.
It added that investigations had begun to establish the cause of the fire, while steps had been initiated to replace the affected transformer.
“GRIDCo sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused and thanks all affected customers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding,” the statement added.
The company did not indicate when electricity supply would be fully restored to all affected areas.
