The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced that five telephony cell sites in the Ashanti Region are expected to be activated by the end of the second week of October.
The sites, all located in the Sekyere Afram Plains District, are expected to extend mobile and internet connectivity to tens of communities in the area.
Mr George said significant progress had been made on the projects, with contractors assuring the Ministry that the works would be completed by the end of the week.
The Minister made the disclosure on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, on the final day of a two-day working tour of telephony sites in the Ashanti Region.
During the tour, he visited Nyameama No. 1, Nyameama No. 2, Abenua and Dawia, all in the Sekyere Afram Plains District, to assess progress on the network expansion projects.
Addressing the media, Mr George said the tour was aimed at evaluating efforts to extend network connectivity to rural communities.
He noted that the projects were among the Ministry’s priorities and were critical to bridging the digital divide between urban and rural communities.
According to him, the activation of the sites would improve access to mobile and internet services and contribute to improving the livelihoods of residents in the beneficiary communities.
