Mr Abubakar Yakubu, the former Communication's Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani East Constituency, has lodged a complaint at the Bono Regional police command for threat of life.
Popularly known in the political circle as 'Baba Amando', Mr Yakubu came to the political limelight when he was arrested and transferred from Sunyani to the police headquarters in Accra for cyber-related offences in April this year.
Mr Yakubu said he lodged the complaint on Friday, October 9, 2026 around 1400 hours at the police regional headquarters in Sunyani where he was made to write his official statement.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he appealed to the police to be expeditious in their investigations, apprehend the suspects and allow justice to be served, saying that: “I have shared the video with the police and expect them to do the needful”.
“I received the death threats from an astute supporter and blogger of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a video for my determination to support the fight against the on-going illegal mining in the Berekum West District”, he stated.
Mr Yakubu indicated that: “I act not out of fear of that weakling and joke of a person, but because the police are supposed to uphold the rule of law.”
He added that: “I am a patriotic Ghanaian, and I reserve the right to defend this country together with other like-minded Ghanaians and it is a solemn right.”
Mr Yakubu expressed concern that illegal mining, popularly known as 'galamsey', had emerged as an existential threat in parts of the Bono Region, saying that: “I intend to keep uncovering the truth within the Berekum West District in particular.”
He called on the traditional authorities in the District and the Bono by extension to rise and support the government's efforts towards fighting illegal mining to protect the region's water bodies, forest and vegetative covers.
