The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bawku, Hon. Isaac Azunaba Atilaat, has assured residents that efforts are underway to sustain the prevailing calm in the municipality and prevent a return to violence.
He gave the assurance at the 56th Speech and Prize-Giving Day of Bawku Senior High School, where he emphasised the Assembly’s commitment, in collaboration with security agencies and traditional authorities, to securing lasting peace for the area.
According to Mr. Atilaat, the relative calm currently enjoyed by residents must be protected and strengthened to create an environment where students can pursue their education without fear.
He stressed that peace was essential to academic excellence, citing Bawku Senior High School’s impressive performance in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) despite years of conflict, fear and sleepless nights.
The MCE urged residents, particularly young people and students, to take an active role in maintaining peace and reject actions that could plunge the municipality into renewed violence.
His assurance comes as Bawku records an improvement in its security situation following years of protracted chieftaincy conflict that disrupted education, commercial activities and social life.
The municipality has now gone more than 150 days without gunshots, a development that has raised hopes for a sustained return to normalcy.
Students and parents who attended the ceremony welcomed the assurance, expressing hope that the prevailing peace would endure and allow children to attend school and pursue their studies without fear.
