Sixty-one Ghanaian health professionals have been deployed to Grenada under the government’s Labour Export Programme to help address shortages of skilled healthcare workers in the Caribbean nation.
The workers are expected to serve in various medical facilities under renewable two-year contracts, providing services to support Grenada’s healthcare delivery system.
Before their departure, Chief of Staff Dr Julius Debrah urged the health professionals to maintain high professional and ethical standards, warning that their conduct would shape perceptions of Ghana in their host country.
He encouraged them to represent Ghana positively and make meaningful contributions to the country’s healthcare system.
“Your certificate or your qualification may open the door for you, but your character will determine how long the door will be kept open,” Dr Debrah said.
He stressed that the workers’ commitment, discipline and professionalism would be critical to ensuring the success of the deployment and strengthening Ghana’s reputation as a source of qualified and dependable healthcare personnel.
The Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, also charged the workers to abide by their contractual obligations and demonstrate professionalism throughout their stay in Grenada.
He further urged them to return to Ghana after completing their contractual assignments.
“Go and work well, don’t mess up. Try and raise the flag of Ghana. Be professional. Professionalism is key. This is what we expect from you,” he said.
Mr Agyekum disclosed that the government was advancing plans to deploy more nurses to Germany and other Caribbean countries as part of efforts to broaden overseas employment opportunities for Ghanaian healthcare professionals.
The Labour Export Programme is designed to provide Ghanaians with employment opportunities abroad while helping partner countries address labour shortages in critical sectors, including healthcare.
