A galamsey operator has reportedly challenged police officers and military personnel to arrest him as he continues his illegal mining activities, warning that anyone sent to stop him risks losing their life.
In a statement attributed to the miner, he dared security personnel to confront him, insisting that he was not afraid of being arrested while descending underground to carry out mining activities.
“Any police officer or soldier who is man enough should come and arrest me. If you don’t want to die, don’t come here when you are sent to stop us,” he reportedly said.
Illegal mining remains a major environmental concern in the country, with its activities linked to the destruction of forest reserves, land degradation and the pollution of water bodies.
Successive governments have introduced measures to tackle the menace, including deploying security personnel to mining areas to enforce regulations and protect the environment.
