India's Minister of External Affairs, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, has arrived in Ghana for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The visit follows an invitation from Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who welcomed the Indian minister to the country on Tuesday, October 6.
The visit comes as Ghana and India seek to deepen their relations following the elevation of their bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Partnership last year.
“Today, I graciously welcomed the highly esteemed and great friend of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of India to our dear country," he wrote in a social media post.
Okudzeto Ablakwa said Dr Jaishankar's visit would provide an opportunity for both countries to engage on areas of mutual interest and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
According to him, Ghana and India are now “high grade strategic partners”, following the elevation of their bilateral relations during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Ghana last year.
The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed optimism that the engagements during the visit would result in agreements and initiatives that would benefit both countries.
“I am looking forward to our positive engagements and impactful deals," he wrote.
Dr Jaishankar's visit also forms part of Ghana's broader efforts to deepen strategic partnerships and attract stronger economic and development cooperation with key international partners.
