Dr Saiid Kwasi Adu, a homeopathic specialist at Last Homoeopathic Clinic, has advised the public to adopt disciplined and healthy lifestyles to reduce the risk of stroke and other conditions associated with the hardening of blood vessels.
He said prevention required conscious efforts to control conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels and diabetes, while avoiding smoking and obesity.
Dr Adu said regular physical exercise was important in maintaining good health and helping the body to burn excess fat.
He also urged the public to cultivate healthy eating habits, particularly avoiding overeating and reducing the consumption of meat and meat products, pastries and foods high in unhealthy fats.
Dr Adu said excessive consumption of such foods could contribute to increased cholesterol levels and high blood pressure, which were among the conditions that could increase the risk of stroke.
He encouraged people to give greater attention to plant-based foods and complex carbohydrates as part of a balanced diet.
The specialist further advised the public to limit their intake of caffeine, sugar and excess salt, adding that lifestyle changes should be complemented by regular medical check-ups to enable people to identify and manage health problems early.
“Regular check-ups are important, and any health problem should be reported to the doctor immediately,” he advised.
Dr Adu said preventing stroke was possible when individuals remained committed to healthy life choices and consistently followed appropriate health advice.
He therefore urged the public not to wait until they became seriously ill before seeking medical attention, saying prevention and early attention to health problems remained essential to maintaining good health.
He reiterated that preventing stroke required discipline and consistency.
