As part of government efforts to improve access to school infrastructure, the Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah; the Cape Coast Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), George Justice Arthur; and the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North, Dr. Kwamena Minta Nyarku, commissioned and handed over a newly constructed Junior High School (JHS) block to make Bessakrom M/A Basic School a complete basic school in the Cape Coast North Constituency.
At a simple but grand commissioning ceremony on Friday, October 2, 2026, in Bessakrom, the MP and the other dignitaries cut the ribbon to officially commission the new JHS block.
The commissioning ended years of struggle in which pupils had to end their education at Class Six and continue junior high school in other communities outside Bessakrom. It also demonstrates the MP’s steadfast commitment to improving educational outcomes and fostering community growth and development.
“For the first time, our children can continue to JHS without changing schools, and that gladdens my heart,” said Dr. Nyarku, popularly known as Ragga.
He seized the moment to express profound appreciation to the chiefs and elders of the community for releasing the land on which the JHS block has been constructed. “For that, I am very grateful, and I am here to officially extend my warmest regards for your show of leadership and support,” the MP stressed.
Explaining the importance he attaches to educational improvement, Dr. Nyarku revealed that he and the Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, were classmates at Komenda Teacher Training College. “That accounts for our seriousness when it comes to education infrastructure,” he said.
He also disclosed that plans were far advanced to construct a six-unit classroom block and a teachers’ bungalow at Dankwakrom to enhance education within the constituency.
On maintenance, Ragga urged the community to use the facility well and maintain it regularly to ensure its longevity. He also admonished teachers to impart knowledge to pupils and thanked them for their work over the years.
“I am grateful to the Central Regional Minister, the MCE for Cape Coast, the chiefs and elders, residents, GES officials and teachers for joining us at the commissioning,” he concluded.
