Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 by the court after spending nearly a month in custody over an alleged false news publication case linked to the “Ghana Jollof” TikTok account.
The court ordered that Ms Baffoe be released on two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning a monthly salary of not less than GH¢3,000.
Her release, however, is subject to the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
Ms Baffoe, 40, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime, specifically the alleged publication of false news on social media.
The case is linked to allegations involving UK-based TikTok personality Barbara Asantewaa Kodua, popularly known as “Ghana Jollof”.
The prosecution alleges that Ms Baffoe acted as a liaison for Ms Kodua and helped recruit people to redistribute videos produced by her on various social media platforms.
Police also allege that financial transactions between the two women formed part of the arrangement, with portions of the funds allegedly distributed to others involved in circulating the content.
Ms Baffoe was arrested in September and subsequently arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court, where she was remanded as investigations continued.
Her first attempt to secure bail was unsuccessful after the High Court, on September 24, rejected her application.
The court at the time cited the cyber-related nature of the investigation and expressed concern that releasing her could create a risk of interference with witnesses and ongoing investigations.
The Republic was subsequently directed to expedite its investigations.
The case was later adjourned to October 5 after the court could not sit on September 30 due to the Association of Judges and Magistrates Conference.
