Ghanaian gospel musician Essi Donkor has supported students in her hometown of Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo in the Central Region with educational materials as part of efforts to encourage academic development among young people in the community.
The donation included exercise books, school bags, pens, mathematical sets and other essential stationery to help ease some of the challenges students face in accessing basic learning materials.
The initiative forms part of Essi Donkor’s commitment to giving back to the community that played a role in shaping her life and supporting the next generation through education.
Presenting the items to the beneficiaries, the musician encouraged the students to take their studies seriously and remain focused on their academic goals.
She urged them to make good use of the materials and develop the discipline and determination required to succeed in school.
According to her, education remains an important foundation for personal development and provides young people with opportunities to build better futures for themselves, their families and their communities.
The gesture was warmly received by the students and members of the community, who expressed appreciation to the gospel musician for remembering her roots and investing in the education of children in Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo.
Speaking on behalf of Essi Donkor’s team, her team lead, Gentletheblogger, also challenged the students to work harder and aim for excellent results in the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
He urged the students not to take the support for granted but to see it as motivation to improve their academic performance.
“Learn hard, stay focused and make sure you pass your BECE with good grades. Your performance can open doors for you, so take your education seriously,” he told the students.
As part of the motivation for the students, Gentletheblogger announced that Essi Donkor’s management would reward the student who records the highest grade in the BECE with GH¢2,000.
The initiative is intended to encourage healthy academic competition among the students and give them an additional incentive to remain committed to their studies.
The announcement generated excitement among the beneficiaries, with the students being encouraged to view the promised reward not simply as a financial incentive but as recognition of hard work and academic excellence.
The donation, therefore, goes beyond the presentation of school supplies. It combines practical educational support with motivation for students to set higher academic targets and remain determined despite the challenges they may encounter.
For Essi Donkor, supporting children in her hometown is also a way of using her platform and influence to make a meaningful contribution to the community.
Her gesture underscores the role individuals, organisations and public figures can play in complementing efforts to promote education, particularly by supporting children who may struggle to obtain basic learning materials.
The donated items are expected to provide immediate assistance to the beneficiaries as they continue their education, while the GH¢2,000 BECE prize is expected to further inspire them to work towards strong academic results.
The initiative has also reinforced Essi Donkor’s connection with Ekumfi Akwansa Kokodo, demonstrating her desire to remain involved in the development of the community and encourage young people to pursue their educational ambitions.
Through the support, the gospel musician and her team have sent a clear message to the students that their education matters and that their efforts in the classroom can attract recognition and support.
The students were consequently encouraged to remain disciplined, study consistently and make their families and community proud through their academic achievements.
