Sammy Crabbe, a contender for the National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced a last-minute alliance with John Boadu, urging his supporters to vote for the former General Secretary as voting in the party's national executive elections gets underway.
In a statement issued just minutes before voting, Mr Crabbe said the alliance was aimed at promoting unity and strengthening the party, with Mr Boadu as National Chairman.
“John Boadu and I are jointly announcing an alliance for unity of purpose. Together, our experience in party management and our programmes to unite and motivate the rank and file will move the party forward. With John as Chairman, we will institutionalise unity and discipline,” he said.
Mr Crabbe said he would work alongside Mr Boadu to implement their programmes and ensure that party members felt heard, valued and motivated.
“I will work side by side with him to see these programmes implemented, so that every member of our party feels heard, valued and motivated,” he said.
He urged his supporters to back Mr Boadu in the chairmanship election, while stressing that the alliance should not be interpreted as a withdrawal from party politics.
“To my supporters: a vote for John is a vote for me. This is not a stepping down. It is a stepping up. It is an alliance,” Mr Crabbe said.
Voting for the NPP's national executive positions is expected to begin shortly at the party's National Delegates Conference in Kumasi.
