Osei Bonsu Amoah has disclosed that although he misses the intellectual environment and legislative work of Parliament, he has no intention of returning to the House after four terms.
Speaking at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, during the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) National Delegates Conference and Officers' elections, the former Akuapem South legislator reflected on his years in Parliament and explained why he believes it is time for other people to have the opportunity to serve.
OB Amoah, who represented the Akuapem South constituency for four consecutive terms, said he continues to appreciate the intellectual engagement associated with parliamentary work, particularly the consideration of bills, regulations and other legislative matters.
However, he said his decision to leave Parliament was deliberate and that he does not intend to seek a return to the legislature.
“I miss Parliament because of the intellectual environment and the kind of things we do; the bills and the regulations. I, however, don’t wish to come back after doing four terms. I don’t think I will go there again.
“There is a time to say that an era has ended and so you can give a chance to others to also come in.”
In January 2024, OB Amoah withdrew from the NPP's parliamentary primary in Akuapem South, bringing an end to his bid to seek another term in Parliament.
At the time, he explained that his decision was based on personal considerations as well as what he considered to be in the interest of the party.
He also indicated that he would remain active in the NPP despite leaving Parliament.
