Manhyia South MP, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has been granted bail in the sum of10 million cedis with 2 sureties.
The MP was kept under EOCO custody since Thursday, October 1, after the institution secured an arrest warrant from court to search and seize documents useful to investigations into some matters regarding SIC Life Insurance.
Lawyer Baffour Awuah has been connected to the SIC Life Insurance matters under EOCO's investigation as he was the insurance company's solicitor in what has been widely told to be a judgement debt case.
There are speculations about lawyer Baffour Awuah's legal services and fees in the matter said to be the focus of EOCO's investigation.
The Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, in a Facebook post, however, explained that the lawyer is being investigated over allegations of causing financial loss to the State and money laundering.
“Mr. Awuah’s imminent arrest is part of an inquiry by EOCO into a complaint of unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Ltd, resulting in crimes of financial loss, dissipation of public funds, money laundering, among others."
The MP was arraigned before a court today and has been granted bail.
