The Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, Hon. Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has joined the District Chief Executive for Kassena-Nankana West, Hon. Stephen Aeke Akurugo, to undertake a number of development activities in the district.
The activities included the handover of 900 dual desks and 40 hexagonal tables, accompanied by 240 chairs, to the Ghana Education Service for distribution to basic schools across the district. The furniture was procured under the District Assembly Common Fund.
Receiving the items, District Director of Education, Madam Mary Magdalene Wompakia, expressed appreciation to the government, the DCE and the MP, while appealing for more furniture to address the district's significant deficit.
Hon. Alamzy appealed to teachers to consider calling off their ongoing strike while negotiations continue to resolve their concerns. He also disclosed that GETFund had responded positively to his engagement over the furniture shortage and plans to provide an additional 3,800 pieces of furniture to schools in the district.
The DCE, Hon. Stephen Aeke Akurugo, said 10 percent of the District Assembly Common Fund is allocated to school furniture and disclosed that future allocations would also provide furniture for teachers.
He also revealed that a diaspora-funded initiative was being piloted to support furniture provision and the construction of kindergarten classroom blocks.
The delegation later distributed financial and material support, including fridges and wheelchairs, to persons with disabilities in the district.
The day's activities ended at Boania, where Hon. Alamzy and Hon. Akurugo commissioned a newly constructed three-unit classroom block.
They assured residents of their commitment to working together to deliver on development promises made during the 2024 election campaign.
