The AABRYT Foundation has organised the second edition of its “Glow Grow Bold Futures” initiative, bringing together 3,700 students of Ejisuman Senior High School in Ejisu for a one-day training workshop focused on personal development, emotional wellbeing, menstrual hygiene, education, leadership and personal safety. Out of the total number of students, 1,200 were girls.
The programme, held on Friday, October 2, 2026, was organised under the foundation’s MEHCAD Initiative in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment, Ghana Post, Addison International Center for Emotional Intelligence, Ghana Police Service, Customs, Ghana National Fire Service and other security agencies.
The initiative seeks to equip young people with knowledge and practical guidance to help them make responsible choices and build a brighter future.
SHS is a critical stage for young people
Speaking at the event, Diana Akosua Adutwumwaa Britwum, Founder and Executive Director of the AABRYT Foundation, said the initiative was designed specifically to give students in Senior High Schools a brighter future.
According to her, the SHS period is a critical stage in the lives of young people, adding that without adequate guidance and attention, some students could make choices that negatively affect their future.
She said the foundation therefore believes the “Glow Grow Bold Futures” initiative is timely and in the right direction.
Britwum disclosed that the first edition of the programme was held in the Eastern Region, with Ejisuman Senior High School becoming the second school to benefit from the initiative.
She further revealed that Ejisuman SHS holds a special place in her heart because it is her alma mater.
According to her, she encountered significant challenges during her own time as a student at the school, and reflecting on those experiences motivated her to return to support present-day students.
Menstrual hygiene takes centre stage
Menstrual hygiene was one of the major areas addressed during the programme.
Britwum explained that menstrual hygiene remains one of the focal areas of the AABRYT Foundation, hence its inclusion in the initiative.
She said educating young people about menstruation and emotional intelligence is important because students need the knowledge and emotional support to properly manage the changes and challenges they experience during adolescence.
She also called for greater support for schoolgirls in the provision of sanitary pads.
While acknowledging the government's sanitary pad support initiative, she said more could still be done to ensure that no girl is disadvantaged in school because of menstrual-related challenges.
Britwum disclosed that the AABRYT Foundation has itself been supporting schoolchildren with sanitary pads across the country.
She said the foundation has distributed more than 40,000 sanitary pads across six regions, supporting more than 30,000 primary school pupils, while noting that the figures do not include the additional support provided to students at the secondary-school level.
She consequently appealed to government to strengthen its support for menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls.
As part of the Ejisuman programme, the foundation donated sanitary pads and other food items to female students of the school.
Ejisuman SHS Board Chairman calls for expansion of support
The Board Chairman of Ejisuman SHS, Mr. Ntim Twumasi Kwaku, popularly known as NTK, commended the AABRYT Foundation for the initiative.
He described menstrual hygiene as an issue that requires the attention of everyone and expressed appreciation to the foundation for supporting the students.
Mr. Twumasi Kwaku called for the initiative to be replicated in other schools, particularly at the Junior High School level, where girls also face menstrual hygiene challenges.
He further urged government to increase its provision of sanitary pads to students to promote healthier lives, particularly for the girl child.
The Board Chairman also expressed appreciation to the foundation for exposing students to career pathways and educating them on the importance of making choices that can contribute to a brighter future.
Headmistress praises initiative
The Headmistress of Ejisuman SHS, Madam Cassandra Osei Owusu, also thanked the AABRYT Foundation for the knowledge and guidance provided to students through the programme.
She particularly highlighted the sessions on menstrual hygiene and career guidance, describing them as useful areas of education for the students.
She expressed the hope that similar training programmes would continue and eventually be replicated in other schools, particularly institutions at the second-cycle level.
Ejisu MP urges students to work hard and remain focused
Addressing the students, the Member of Parliament for Ejisu, Hon. Kwabena Boateng, encouraged them to take their education seriously and remain focused on their academic goals.
Drawing from his own experience as a student, he told the young people that hard work, carefulness and prayer had played important roles in his journey.
He urged the students not to underestimate the importance of prayer, hard work and discipline as they pursue their education.
The MP also reminded them that some of the challenges they encounter in school can contribute to preparing them for greater responsibilities and opportunities in the future.
He cautioned the students against becoming too comfortable, stressing that achieving one's aspirations often requires perseverance through difficult moments.
He encouraged them to work hard academically, avoid excessive play and remain focused despite challenges they may encounter at home or elsewhere.
He further urged the students not to allow difficulties outside the classroom to distract them from their studies.
AABRYT Foundation’s message to the youth
The overall message of “Glow Grow Bold Futures 2.0” was centred on empowering young people to understand themselves, make informed decisions and develop the confidence needed to shape their future.
With sessions covering menstrual health and hygiene, emotional wellness and leadership, education, career guidance, personal safety and security, the programme sought to address both the personal and social challenges confronting young people.
The initiative carries the message: “Empowered to Glow. Equipped to Grow. Inspired to Lead. Boldly Shaping Futures!”
The AABRYT Foundation says its continued engagement with schools is aimed at helping young people develop the knowledge, confidence and values required to build healthier and more productive futures.
