Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Yaw Boamah has expressed solidarity with his colleague, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, amid an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Baffour Awuah reported himself to EOCO on Thursday, October 1, after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.
EOCO said he was subsequently placed under arrest and is cooperating with investigators in a probe involving alleged criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences.
The MP was later granted GH¢50 million bail with three sureties, while EOCO also proceeded to execute a search warrant at his office and residence.
In a social media post on Friday, October 2, Yaw Boamah said he stands with Baffour Awuah as he goes through the investigation process.
“I stand in solidarity with my colleague and brother, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, MP for Manhyia South, as he goes through the EOCO interrogation process," he wrote.
He also prayed for the MP's wellbeing and called for the exercise of state power to be guided by democratic and legal principles.
“May due process and fairness prevail, and may the exercise of state power always be guided by the principles of democracy, justice, and the rule of law," he noted.
Meanwhile, EOCO has said the investigation will be conducted professionally and independently, with all persons involved afforded their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws.
