Management of the Breast Care Centre at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has revealed that the facility recorded 234 confirmed cases of breast cancer in 2025.
This concern was raised as Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2026, under the theme “Early Actions, Better Outcomes.”
Speaking in an exclusive interview with OTEC News, Mrs Marian Osei Bonsu, the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer and Unit in-Charge of the Breast Care Centre at KATH, said the centre diagnosed 5,544 suspected cases in 2025, of which 234 were confirmed as breast cancer cases.
Last year, in October 2025 alone, the Breast Care Centre diagnosed 2,802 cases and confirmed 145 cases of breast cancer in the Ashanti Region, describing the situation as a concern, she said
She urged both men and women to regularly examine their breasts and seek medical attention whenever they notice unusual changes.
"We are urging mothers to pay attention to their daughters, teach them how to examine their breasts regularly, and encourage them to report any abnormalities early, stressing that early detection can lead to better results," she added
