Headlines Manhyia South MP who resisted arrest reports to EOCO a day after arrest warrant secured
THU, 01 OCT 2026

Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has reportedly appeared before the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), a day after the Accra High Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

The MP reported to the anti-graft agency on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea.

Along with the arrest warrant, the court authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents relevant to its investigation. EOCO had told the court it had exhausted reasonable efforts to secure the MP's voluntary attendance and feared that key documents could be hidden, altered or destroyed.

The warrant came after an attempt to arrest Mr Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23.

Dispute over invitations
EOCO maintains that it invited the MP twice in February 2026 and that he did not honour either invitation.

Mr Baffour Awuah disputes this. He says the invitations concerned his former law firm, Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah & Partners, which represented SIC Life Savings & Loans. He says he referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament, after which a representative of the firm appeared before EOCO on March 4, March 18 and April 30. According to the MP, the representative provided the information investigators requested, including a written statement.

The investigation
The probe concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited. Authorities have linked it to suspected financial loss, dissipation of public funds and money laundering. The allegations remain under investigation.

The MP's appearance marks the latest turn in a case that has escalated from the attempted arrest at the High Court to the issuing of a warrant.
