Lands Minister exits GoldBod Board as Minister's Chief Director takes over

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports that the Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Ministry said the Minister's Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, had been designated to represent him on the Board. It described the arrangement, made in January 2026, as purely administrative.

Ministry Describes Reports as False

The Ministry also rejected claims that the Minister had fallen out with GoldBod.

"The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has taken note of reports and social media publications suggesting that the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP, has resigned from the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).

"The Ministry wishes to state categorically that the reports are false and do not reflect the facts," the statement said.

Why the Chief Director Represents the Minister

According to the Ministry, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah initially served personally on the GoldBod Board. He later nominated Mr Haligah to represent him because he could not regularly attend all Board meetings and engagements.

The Ministry said the decision was driven by the Minister's demanding schedule and extensive responsibilities. At the time, he was overseeing two ministries, which made it increasingly difficult for him to take part in GoldBod's Board activities in person.

Arrangement in Line with GoldBod Rules

The Ministry explained that designating the Chief Director, a senior official of the Ministry, was consistent with GoldBod's governance framework. That framework allows designated representatives to serve on the Board on behalf of members where applicable.
