Two miners die after losing consciousness in Juaboso mining pit

Two miners have died after reportedly losing consciousness while working inside a mining pit at Juaboso in the Western North Region.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after the two men entered the pit around midday to engage in mining activities. They reportedly failed to return, raising concerns among residents.

By Sunday morning, a friend of the miners entered the pit to search for them and reportedly found both men in a weak and distressed condition.

Residents subsequently joined efforts to rescue the victims and rushed them to the Juaboso Government Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

One of the deceased has been identified as Richard Oduro, popularly known as Churches, a resident of Juaboso Township. The identity of the second victim, reportedly a stranger to the community, has not yet been established.

Preliminary reports suggest that excessive heat and poor ventilation inside the underground pit may have contributed to the deaths. However, the exact cause has not been officially confirmed.
