Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has praised President John Dramani Mahama for what he described as a rapid turnaround of Ghana’s economy since taking office.
Mr Dangote said the economic recovery under President Mahama demonstrated that investor confidence and trust could play a major role in restoring an economy.
He made the remarks on Monday, September 21, when he spoke at the “Accra Reset: Full Circle – Making Global Development Work Again” event on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.
“Let me first of all, you know, appreciate and congratulate my brother, His Excellency President John Mahama, for actually turning around the economy of Ghana in a very very short time,” Dangote said.
He said President Mahama had not relied on any “magic” to improve the economy but had taken measures that restored confidence among investors.
According to Dangote, the experience showed that “money follows trust”, stressing that increased confidence in Ghana’s economic management had contributed to the turnaround.
He also used the occasion to call for stronger economic integration among African countries, particularly through easier movement of people and greater opportunities for intra-African investment.
The business mogul questioned why Africans should face more restrictions when travelling within the continent than Europeans visiting African countries.
He argued that African countries must overcome the barriers that prevent Africans from investing across borders and deepen their confidence in the continent’s economic potential.

Mahama has restored confidence, stabilized key sectors, and shown that when a government truly works for the people, progress does not take decades. It is refreshing to see respected global figures acknowledge Ghana's new direction. The results speak loudly, and the worl...
