Mysterious Illness Leaves Children Struggling to Walk, Hear in Mafi Kope, Nkwanta South

Oti Region Residents of Mafi Kope, a fishing community in the Nkwanta South Municipality, are appealing to the Ministry of Health and other health authorities to urgently intervene following an outbreak of illness reportedly affecting both children and adults.

What residents describe
According to community members, the condition has persisted for some time and is seriously disrupting the daily lives of affected families, particularly children. Moses Ahator, a resident of the community, told the Ghana News Agency that some children have developed sores and other symptoms that have affected their ability to walk.

He said others are experiencing ear problems and hearing difficulties.

Ahator said the situation has become a major concern, with some affected children unable to attend school because of the severity of their condition.

What is not yet known
No cause has been identified or reported for the illness. I found no statement yet from the Ghana Health Service, the Ministry of Health, or district health authorities confirming an investigation, the number of people affected, or a diagnosis.
