Education, Vital Tool To Eradicate Illiteracy

By Abdul Karim Naatogmah, Boya - newtimesonline.com

THE Member of Parliament for Zebilla, John Ndebugri has challenged parents in Bawku West District to take advantage of the Capitation Grant scheme and the school feeding programme to enrol their children of school going age, particularly the girl-child in school.

'This will be the best means of eradicating illiteracy, poverty, hunger and diseases in the area.'

Mr Ndebugre said this when he addressed the inaugural ceremony of the Boya Development Association, a youth group here, as a guest speaker.

He bemoaned the low level of school enrolment in the area and advised the youth particularly to consider education as their major priorities above other issues that might not prepare them adequately to face challenges of today’s global world.

The MP impressed upon women in the area to participate actively in developmental issues, particularly, in their communities to improve their socio-economic development.

John A. Amidini, National Chairman of the association, said the 'mission and vision of the association is to help increase the level of literacy rate in the area to about 65 per cent by 2028.

He said the association has plans to set up an education endowment fund to assist needy but brilliant children in the district and beyond to promote the standard of education in the satellites communities.

Mr. Amidini therefore appealed to the government and other stakeholders in education to provide the eight satellites communitie in the area with more educational infrastructure to increase the level of school enrolment.
