The Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral of Ghana Project has been instructed to hand over the project site to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs by October 31, 2026.
The directive follows President John Dramani Mahama's decision to dissolve the Board.
In a letter signed by the sector Minister, Mahama Ayariga, the Board was formally directed to begin arrangements for the handover and ensure that the process is completed within the stipulated deadline.
The Ministry said taking custody of the site would enable the government to assess the project and determine the way forward for the National Cathedral.
The Board has consequently been asked to work with the project's consultant to facilitate the transfer of the site and complete all related handover procedures by October 31.
On behalf of President Mahama, the Minister also expressed appreciation to members of the Board for their efforts and commitment to promoting the Christian faith in Ghana.
The directive comes as the government reviews the future of the National Cathedral project, which has remained the subject of extensive public debate over its construction, financing and management.
