The assertion, coming in the wake of the apparent suicide death of the British and Ghanaian-descended Cambridge University Scholar and Professor of the Sociology of Education, that the then 39-year-old Mr. Jason Arday had been hired by the University solely and purely on the basis of ethnicity or racial background, rather than primarily on merit or on the basis of proven intellectual and academic competence and worthwhile pedagogical/andragogical productivity, by renowned Evolutionary Biologist Richard Dawkins, has always been widely known in both the United Kingdom (UK) and right here in the United States of America (USA) for quite a considerably while (See “Patronizing Condescension” in “Cambridge Chancellor: We Must Uphold Academic Integrity in Wake of Arday Tragedy” Telegraph 8/19/26).
Nonetheless, this clearly counterproductive protocol or procedural anomaly has been allowed to fester uncontrollably apparently because it serves as a kind of a “Self-Fullfilling Prophecy” of the sort that Mr. Dawkins, described as an Emeritus Fellow of New College, University of Oxford, claims to have become normative or a firmly established tradition at many of the best tertiary academies in both the United Kingdom and elsewhere in the Western World, obviously because it makes the Academy’s Left-Leaning Liberal Scholars and Administrators feel morally indemnified.
The aforementioned critic does not specifically name the most guilty culprits as Left-Leaning Liberals but the available evidence, for the most part, is incontrovertible. But in practical and forensically verifiable terms, the practice seems to be inadvertently collusive and even collaborative in the sense that the cavalier presumption of relative Black Intellectual Inferiority to almost every species of humanity, particularly Whites, has been clearly and firmly established as the rule and “plausibly” boosted by the unignorable ravages of the approximately a Half-Millennium of the massive and seismic global enslavement of Indigenous Continental African People as veritable items of chattel, the deleterious and the long-ranging effects of which, at best, has been half-heartedly explained by even the best and the brightest of our geneticists and social scientists.
And the preceding protean and scientifically amorphous state of affairs and the seemingly indelible racist and racialist mindset of Neo-Nazi and Inveterate Fascist Political Propagandists of the European World, for the most part. Under such cyclically hermetic thought processes, the end result, for only just one striking example, is what Professor Dawkins has, reportedly, described in the following blunt and unimpeachable terms: “In appointing [Mr. Arday] to a professorship for which he was manifestly unqualified - in ludicrously describing him as ‘the best in the world’ - certain senior members of [Cambridge University] showed a level of patronising condescension towards black people that could fairly be described as racism, while at the same time making him tragically vulnerable to such attacks as came his way.”
But as was to be expected, it was Lord Smith of Finsbury, the Cambridge University Chancellor, who, without seeming to prejudicially suggest that there has, indeed, been any wrongdoing in the hiring of the late Professor Jason Arday, called for calm and a drastic reduction to the facile and the counterproductive temptation to emote and melodramatically moralize an otherwise purely academic matter of quality-assurance integrity in such a way that it almost became irrelevant not to temporize or compromise the first and foremost reason for the existence and the sociocultural relevance of a first-rate tertiary academy like Cambridge (See “Cambridge Chancellor: We Must Uphold Academic Integrity in Wake of Arday Tragedy” Telegraph 8/19/26).
If the Jason Arday Tragedy had any edifying or morally instructive lessons for top-tier academies like Cambridge and Oxford Universities - aka The Oxbridge Academies - Lord Smith of Finsbury seems to suggest, it was the imperative necessity for the Dons or the Administrators of the Oxbridge Circle or League of Public-Opinion Leaders to promptly haunch down and do even more heavy-lifting work of academic integrity in order to ensure that the kind of apparently lethal and fatal blunder that resulted in the Jason Arday Tragedy did not repeat itself in the offing.
Significantly, the Cambridge Chancellor, who has also played a major role in the University’s history and culture as both a faculty member and a senior administrator, was also of the empirically authoritative view that much of the media ballyhoo that surrounded the Jayson Arday Plagiarism Allegation had more to do with raw-boned racism than what such hoopla pretended to be really about, from Lord Smith’s own personal experience. Even so, the Cambridge University Chancellor’s one major concern was what the fallout from the Jason Arday Tragedy portended or presaged for competent and brilliant Black and African-Descended Scholars and Professors in the august Oxbridge Academy.
Which also had Yours Truly chuckling and scratching his head with a jaded knowing smile, as only Nigeria’s Nobel Literature Prize Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, would have been expected to display. And here, of course, Yours Truly is thinking about an equally racist encounter that the then young and already globally renowned and academically and professionally established British-educated Professor Soyinka had, as a specially invited Overseas Fellow at Cambridge University, in the early 1970s, shortly after the end of the Biafran War.
