The Acting Commissioner of the Rent Control Department, Frederick Opoku, has raised concerns about what he describes as inadequate funding for the department, saying its operations across the country are being severely constrained by limited financial resources.

Mr Opoku disclosed that the department received only GH¢60,000 to operate its 66 offices nationwide during the first quarter of 2026.

Speaking on Adom FM, he questioned how the department could effectively carry out its responsibilities with such a limited allocation.

“GH¢60,000 to run Rent Control for three months? What's the meaning of this? The Finance Minister and all of them should listen to this and act on it,” he said.

He stressed that the Rent Control Department plays an important role in addressing tenancy and housing-related disputes while protecting the interests of both landlords and tenants.

Mr Opoku further revealed that the allocation for the second quarter brought the department’s total funding for the first half of the year to GH¢120,000 for all 66 offices across the country.

He said the amount was insufficient to meet the department’s operational needs.

“For 66 offices, what do you mean? How do you expect Rent Control to function?” he added.

The Acting Commissioner appealed to the Finance Minister to reconsider the department’s allocation and provide it with adequate resources to enable it to operate effectively and respond to tenancy and housing-related complaints across the country.

Now Ghanaians understand why Hon. Ato Forson has been successful with his goals and achievements. The previous administration could have provided GHC 1 billion, and yet, the administration would have failed, as we witnessed in the previous government. Excess money went to every institution, yet institutions went bankrupt.
