Mahama reaffirms commitment to establish University in Ahafo Region

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to establish the first public University in the Ahafo Region as part of efforts to widen access to higher education.

This is in fulfillment of his campaign promise during the 2024 general election in which he emerged victorious.

“With regard to education, we promised Ahafo a tertiary institution. The promise is on track, and I assure you that before the end of my term in office, Ahafo will have a tertiary educational institution.”

The President reaffirmed his commitment when a delegation of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs led by its President, Nana Barima Twereku Ampem III, the Omanhene of the Ntotroso Traditional Area called on him at the presidency.

The call was to congratulate President Mahama on his decisive victory in the 2024 general election and to thank him for initiating numerous developmental projects in the Region.

On healthcare, the President said they were on track and their promise was that all six newly created regions would have first-class regional hospitals.

“This year’s budget provided for three regional hospitals, and procurement has been completed while contractors are moving to sites,” President Mahama said.

“Next year’s budget will provide for the remaining three regional hospitals, and Ahafo is part of that group.”

Responding to a request by the President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, President Mahama said, he had taken note of all the educational issues the Chief raised, which includes schools, buses, and the pickup vehicles.

He said the government was procuring buses for schools, and that the funding had been provided under the Ghana Education Trust Fund budget; adding that, when the buses arrive, schools with the greatest need would be identified for distribution.

Nana Barima Twereku Ampem III, the Omanhene of the Ntotroso Traditional Area, and President of the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs was full of praise for the President for initiating numerous developmental projects in the Region.

He thanked him for initiating the Accra-Kumasi Expressway Project, which according to him, when completed, would go a long way to enhance the faster movement of people, goods, and services between the Ahafo Region and Accra.

He praised Newmont for their contributions to the Ahafo Region’s development as part of their corporate social duties.
