Takoradi–Agona Nkwanta road to be completed in November — Contractor

The rehabilitation and dualisation of the 23‑kilometre Takoradi–Agona Nkwanta Road are set to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of November 2026, four months ahead of schedule.

The assurance was given by the Managing Director of Justmoh Construction Limited, Dr Justice Amoh, during an inspection tour by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, on Wednesday.

Dr Amoh explained that the contractor had mobilised resources to accelerate construction, with all materials for furnishing the road cleared and ready for use. He said the remaining works include road protection measures, installation of guardrails, and line markings.

“We can assure you that by the end of November, we are going to hand over,” he told the Minister.

The project, which involves dualising the existing single carriageway and constructing four major concrete bridges, including dual‑carriageway bridges at Apremdo and Ewusiejoe, initially suffered almost two years of delay due to funding challenges.

Work accelerated after the government released US$78 million in outstanding arrears, enabling the contractor to intensify operations and deploy additional resources.

Dr Amoh, however, raised concerns about excessive axle‑load violations, warning that overloaded vehicles could undermine the durability of the new road.

He appealed to the Minister to enforce axle‑load regulations to protect the infrastructure. “No matter what the road design is, if the axle load is not controlled, it will undermine the road,” he cautioned.

While expressing satisfaction with the progress of work, the Minister assured residents along the corridor that the project would be delivered on time.

“The next time we come here in November, we will be taking over the completed project without fail. We thank all the people living along the corridor for their cooperation during the construction,” he said.
